Anyone here use POD stuff?

I was thinking of getting a POD XT live since I want something that I can switch by foot. Anyone like their shit? Does it suck? I sold all my pedals but the ibanez wah. Just wondering what your experience with it is.

My guitar player just bought a Line 6 multi stomp box thing....he's been playing over 25 years, has an extensive (expensive) guitar collection and has probably owned every "stomp box" and multi-effect pedal made at one time or another.

He loves this Line 6 thing...intuitive, no 50 page manual.
I guess it's pretty new.

Jesse, what amp are you using? I ask because the x3 and almost all Line 6 product force you to use "amp modelers". If you like/love the sound of your amp, prepare for your sound/tone to be colored....yes, even in "bypass" mode. The one I posted above has no amp modelers and a "true bypass" circuit.

Well, maybe the amp modeling is something that may help you out....follow up after you get it.

You're better off with one of these.

i have an xt live that is great but i'd never use any of its distortions over a good amp distortion (i have a powerball), but some of the custom-tone.com stuff that people make actually sound kind of decent. the effects are cool as shit but it isnt like a huge plethora of brilliance like they make it out to be. x3 live would be great if you can get it cheap but other then that you'll be wasting a lot of money on vocal and bass effects that you wont get around to using.

I'm not sold on the line 6 stuff. Every distortion I've played of theirs sounds like an analog signal with some crunchy static laid overtop of it at about 20db louder than the actual signal.
Even Bogner couldn't get a good tone from them. There's those amps they (Line 6) have that are bogner tube pre and power; and the line 6 shit is in the middle of it; and it still doesn't sound good to me. The clean channel rules, as to be expected because there's no line 6 shit going on at that point. But once you hit the distortion it's

I'm with Kellan on the line 6 stuff. I think it's a good brand if you don't have a lot of time or money to invest in some effects and you want stuff to mess around with, but as far as any actual good sounding distortion/effects it just won't work for me. I need something that sounds real.

The amps are mediocre, but PODs are good value. It's very hard to get good high gain sounds from those modeling units though, I'd imagine that you could just buy a good tube amp for the price of a modeling unit that actually sounds good.

only tube amp I've ever owned are the crate blue voodoo's.
I've never given amps much priority in my equipment selection.

I'll have to agree on the distortion thing; I have yet to hear a distortion recorded direct that sounded like anything other than a one-dimensional tinny buzzy sound.

My guitarist had one of those Vetta heads and it could do anything but he likened it to cable TV: you got 300 channels but nothing good to watch.

You should, if you're looking for great metal distortion. The POD will do everything else though
