I always wanted to be a musician. I wasn't really inspired to play by others, but there were people who shaped the way I thought about musicianship. When you're a little kid you just hear what's played around you. My dad listened to SRV and just basically classic rock stuff. My first favorite band was Deep Purple. My dad gave me a cassette that the Machine Head and Who Do We Think We Are? albums on it and I listened to that obsessively for at least a year. During that time I developed my listening skills by learning the beats on drums and focusing on hearing the separate instruments and tracks. If I had to pick a favorite album Machine Head would still be a contender and always will be.

Hey, calm down! I hate to see you two fight.
My inspiration to play the guitar came from the one armed drummer for Def Leopard.

Slayer - Both Jeff and Kerry got me into guitar at first. I remember buying the tab book of live doa and trying to play that whole album..
Trying is the key word here..

I listened to tons of Alice in Chains and Soundgarden when I was little.. so I guess Cantrell and Thayil got me interested. I was into Dime's playing pretty heavily when I started actually playing guitar. Over the years I've been influenced by a lot of players: Gilmour, Hendrix, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Frusciante, Mike McCready, and probably a ton I'm forgetting.
Goddamn, this is one wacky game show.

yeah his basslines are not very complex but they greatly add to the song. His bassline on Something is probably his best work, IMO.
