Does anyone know any decent recording programs that are free to download. I want be able record myself playing rythem and lead guitar. I could use any tips on recording without buying any expensive gear or programs.

If you use bittorrent, download Cubase SX thats a good program to use.

Anyone who can't/don't use bittorrent shouldn't be recording on their PC anyway.
