The only person worth their salt in judging anything from that panel is Rusty Cooley. Even then he is boring as fuck. What a shit competition. Leave Dimebag to fucking die already.

WhiteMike - I think Micheal Angelo Batio is a solid player as well. & seeing how Vinnie & Dime met tons of good guitarists, I would say that Vinnie would be a good judge as well. Just my opinion.

Vinnie knows fucking nothing other than how to balloon his weight and ego further. Batio is not a good guitarist, he just knows how to play really really fucking fast.

'Shredding' requires the same amount of dynamics, feel, phrasing and colour as playing a Dave Gilmour solo does. These guys have none.

You can go ahead and shut the fuck up now. I'm no fan of Batio but watching his instructional vids from Guitar World you know this guy has an extensive knowledge of theory. It's pretty amazing how much thought and detail he puts into his playing.

Nah that's fucking bullshit. I don't care how much theory he knows he fucking sucks. That's like saying because you know how a car works inside out you can drive like Lewis Hamilton. Utter shite.

No, that's the worst analogy I've ever heard. The guy can play. He can't write a song that isn't cheesy and horrible to save his life but he knows what he's doing. He writes songs about as good as Cooley does, however.

I didn't say he couldn't play, I said he sucked. Sometimes knowing all the theory in the world can be more restricting than not. He proves this.

I swear vibrato is just something only certain people were chosen to do correctly. There IS such thing as tone-deaf. This is proof that mexicans suck at everything but factory work

First of all, I never said I ruled the fuckin' day at playing. Yeah, I got a lot of improving to do - that's why they call it PRACTICE.

So..............................Where's your entry?

For the record - I'm not mexican.

You have a good point, feeling in playing like Gilmour can change a band completely, for the better. Even Zakk Wylde on Rust and songs like that is awesome, the guitar basically sounds like it's crying.

So people that are all by the book scales and whatnot, do lose the "feeling" in their playing.

No, learning theory and scales doesn't "make" you lose feel at all. It was never there to begin with. People have this warped perception that theory turns you into some soulless drone who only mutters about the Circle of Fifths and Aeolian modal runs and shit like that. Those people were that way to begin with.

Someone wasn't an emotive blues guitarist that suddenly "learned theory" and turned into Yngwie. People like Yngwie and Cooley and all those jerks were OCD types that sat there practicing for 12 hours a day going up and down and up and down on their fretboards and trying to compensate for their lack of artistry. It's why their music completely fucking sucks, they had no creative spirit to begin with so instead they string together a bunch of shit and hope that flashiness makes up for their lack of creative ability.

They're the Thomas Kincaid of guitar.

Can always count on Pfloyd to set niggas straight

I'm listening to Steely Dan, mourning the fact that I missed them in Berkeley on Saturday unknowingly, while I was in the bay area at that time.
Anyway, perfect example of knowing a ton of theory and creating absolutely timeless, original music with as much "feeling" as anything.
