Just bought a new guitar...!
I know some of you hate Ibanez.. But I'm into them! It's a new neck-thru model for 2005:
Should arrive tomorow all the way from Germany.
I couldn't 'try before I buy' because I can't find anywhere within about 300 miles who stock this new model until around July, although, I've played many an Ibanez and i'm sure this won't dissapoint.
I'll most probably switch the bridge pickup in a couple of weeks.. I've heard the stock pups aren't too hot
Signed,
Your dearest Tug

Cheers guys
It's now Thursday and still hasn't arrived, a day late already
I'm torn between getting a hot passive pickup for the bridge (Something like a Dimarzio Evolution, Seymour Duncan Invader or a Duncan Distortion) or going totally active & getting 2 EMGs... I'd probably go for EMG 81s in both the bridge & neck.. I've never been fond of the 85, 89 or 60 which are the other popular choices of EMG for the neck.
P.s. What do you suggest Hippy?

if you ever goto andy sneaps forum theres a guy on there who posted 2 guitar clips, one with an emg81 and one with an emg85, the difference between them both is incredible, the 85 sounds much more brighter and fuller compared to the 81, it makes it sound alot bigger.scrotal_tug wrote:Cheers guys

Cool, it is interesting, but I don't have the balls to get an 85 at the bridge incase I dont like it & have to get it swapped.. I'm really low on money
I've got an 81 in the bridge of my dime at the moment & I really like it!
I know Killswitch use 85's in the bridges of their capirsons too, and their tones are outstanding.
On the older Datura clips I used amplitube. I'm using my 5150 on a lot of newer stuff now though - I can get really similar results!

Dino uses a modified 707 in his Ibanez. It a lot better than the 707 (which is a peice of shit IMO), you would be better off with an 81-7.gheoss wrote:85, im very happy with my 707, its a modified 85.
I think Dino Casares use a 707 in a Ibanez or am i wrong?

Is this the same guitar with the 85 switched to the bridge position?Metallash wrote:http://www.backmask.com/preproduction/81.mp3 - EMG81 Clip

Sounds a lot thicker & less waspy.. But I'm worried the thing will sound tooooo bassy & dull in the bridge position!
I geuss i'm worried because i've only ever played guitars with the 85 in the neck, and I hate neck pickups. In many cases I find they sound too bassy, thick and poorly defined.

they are bassy because of the position they are in. lets say you took an emg 81 and put it in the neck position, it would sound bassier than a 81 in the bridge.

I see!
Well, it's just arrived now & I've sessioned her for about 30 mins so far!
Plays really nicely, pretty damn well set up & I'm really impressed with the Ibanez floating trem!
The strings on it are a little heavy for standard tuning, so I'm gonna string her up with .09s and lower the action a little more (I like it super-low!). Then it should play like the wind!
Sound-wise, the pups aren't too bad.. They are quite bassy & a little muddy (In comparison to my EMG 81 loaded dime).
I find they can't quite handle lots of gain like the 81s do either.. The tone just seems to get muddier as gain increases beyond a certain point at which the 81 would be excelling!
On the whole, damn nice.. It'll need a bit of tweaking set-up wise and a new bridge pup thrown in pretty soon.. But after that, this thing will own!
