they are playing in manchester in 3 weeks, thinking of going, only really heard a few songs they have released as singles so i am not too sure how good they would be.

The mars volta are awesome live. I went to see them, they pretty much played three hours of non stop music, moving between different songs and crazy jamming. It was fucking seamless, the singer's voice is every bit as good as it is on the albums and the drummer is superhuman. Go and see them.

It differs. I've seen videos of them from a few years back and they sucked cock, I downloaded 4 or 5 songs from their set at Big Day Out in January and they were good there
