Advantage of post counts

While not necessary to forum functioning, post counts act as a guide to newbies integrating into the forum, by providing information on the general reliability of a person. A user with a very high post count is probably a respectable member of the community, and thus unlikely to defraud or misbehave, as a user who did not understand the rules or was a troll would have been banned before they could accumulate a high post count.

A user with a very low post count, on the other hand, is an unknown element who may not know the rules and customs of the forum yet. By these members being marked, the forum regulars will know not to judge them too harshly in their first few days or weeks.
