Favorite guitar and bass designs

Post by Balls Of Steel »

This thread is about the look alone, not the sound.

I really like this one. It reminds me of the most fun things from the 80s. It's ridiculous, but seems very practical (I haven't played one, unforunately). I probably wouldn't even hesitate to use one on stage if I was in a death metal band :aargh: :fu:

(Steinberger L-series)

Used to have this one. Not the most unique of basses, but the shape just looks so... aesthetic.

(Yamaha RBX374)

Claypool has plenty of expensive custom made basses. I'm sure every bass player knows at least this one:

(Carl Thompson "rainbow" bass)

(waits for the Wangcaster to show up)

I have always loved the Entwistle Buzzard Basses.

I would never own/play any of these at this point of my life, but always thought they were pretty cool looking.

The Rickenbacker will always be my favourite design.

This site has some pretty cool custom bass guitars, especially that Custom Pi.

It's actually an 8 string bass, like a 12 string with smaller guage strings tuned in octaves.

I do like Rickys but have always avoided them.
They use a dual truss rod one piece neck, if/when they go bad, the entire bass is shit.
I've seen a few where the fret board completely raised off the neck because of this design.

Are those additional strings just guitar strings?

String Gauges
.045, .065, .080, .100, regular string
.018, .028, .040, .050, octave string
A bit bigger.

Tom Petersson (Cheap Trick) often played a 12 string with regular bass and 2 octave strings per.

I kinda like it. Although I'd definitely shell out a few more bucks and change the bridge because it's the cheapest, most stock shit possible.

The stock bridge is pretty beefy and solid. I've swapped out the bridge on my Jazz bass with a Badass though.
