I figured it out. I had everything wired up right initially, but taking the guitar to a room with better lighting revealed a tiny, almost hair thin piece of solder shorting my circuit. :x Easy fix though. My soldering iron fucking sucks...

I was never a fan of the active pickup until recently, and I got this one today used for dirt cheap so I couldn't pass it up.

81. 40 dollars used. Pretty good deal I think. I had to buy the 25k pot and proper jack which would have came with a new one, but even for that... I got an EMG for less than 50 dollars.

It wasn't all that bad once I realized what I did wrong.

Not yet. I'm still shopping around for a good deal on something I actually want. I have an old Korean Fender Strat I've had since I was 15 that is definitely a cheapy, but has a lot of sentimental value.

I don't have a "nice" guitar right now because I sold off a bunch of shit when I got into the Electro-Computer shit. Mistake on my part. I used to have a nice S Series Ibanez... wish I still had it.

I never stopped listening to or liking Metal, I just stopped making it for a few years.

I'm doing some work on my guitar and planning to get a new one so I can start working on some new material that incorporates a respectable amount of some of the Electronic work I've done with a non-cheesy form of Metal. The guitar work I've been doing lately is kind of a Pelican meets Devin Townsend thing...

Yeah you can't beat 40 for an EMG 81.

I used to hate them, but I wanted something smooth with a high output for distortion. Figured I'd try it out.

I still think the 81 clean is  though.
