My Maiden name was Manuela M. Cisneros back then (Phil called me Kitten because it was easier to pronounce). I met the guys from Pantera on my birthday. Some friends of mine were in this band called Disciple and Bonnie Stacy from ATCO/WEA who made the first introductions. I remember it raining in Dallas where they opened up for Alice In Chains at the Arcadia. I had just started DJ-ing at ksmu with my partner Greg Altuna and we scored this interview with Pantera so we were soooo excited. With tape recorder in hand we got our first Rock Star interview with none other than Vincent Paul Abbott and Darrell Abbott. Vinnie gave us the interview of a lifetime (although he did grab my a**) and Darrell entertained us in the tour bus afterwards. Darrell had so much life within him and you could tell right away that he was a sweet and funny dude. After that, we were all friends from there on out. I remember a photo session backstage after Pantera opened up for Skid Row. Darrell had just introduced me to his mother and I was picking on him while they were photographing the band's picture. We were all laughing so hard that he found it tough to look serious for the camera. Darrell asked his mother to tell me to stop picking on him so he could get his picture taken in jest. Afterwards, Darrell slid up beside me and told me to watch where I stood because they had moved the cans back closer to the backstage. He didn't want me to get hurt while I was peeking from backstage while they played. He was considerate like that. He doted on his long time girlfriend Rita too. You could tell that he cared for her. I remember the look of pride when Darrell told me that he bought his mother a house. And the thing that got me the most is that he NEVER forgot my birthday. They usually played on or around my birthday and I would be somewhere backstage watching them play to sold out venues. After the show, he would run out and hug me and say that he played my favourite song just for me on my birthday. (The song is his and my secret.) Darrell was the sweetest for sure. Gosh, I am taken aback from all of this. I left that part of my life behind me and boy, the stories I could tell!!!! Out of every rock star I have met, Darrell was the ONLY one to treat me like I was someone important instead of just a college radio DJ. Darrell was more than guitars, pink goatees and jagger shots, he was gentleman with the a heart of gold. The memory that sticks out the most for me is when I had to drop out of SMU because I was pregnant from a sexual assault. I was backstage in Houston at the Astro Arena and Vinnie and I had minced words (Vinnie did NOT know about the sexual assault!) about girls being irresponsible with unwanted pregnancies. I was in tears, about to leave when Darrell jumped in front of me and looked hurt for not saying goodbye. He immediately stopped looking hurt and saw my pain. He hugged me fiercely and asked me what happened. I told him and he showered me with compassion. He even imparted with me some wisdom about parenting and then teased me until I started to laugh. A kiss on the cheek and he walked me to my car. I saw Pantera about 3 years ago the last time they were in Huntington, WV. I was pregnant (again for the 4th time with my beloved husband Joshua) and we drove by while the crew was setting up for their show. I saw the guys from Pantera and I waved at them. Only Darrell recognized me and waved back. Darrell, I think that you are a better human being than you were ever a guitarist. God Speed you home to thee old friend.

It was about 10 years ago, I was 15. Me and some friends were hanging out and one of them said he knew Dimebag personally, of course no one believed him until he took us over to Vinnie's house. Dimebag was drunk, as usual, stumbling around the livingroom. He asked me if I wanted a beer and like a dumbass, I said no..... but I had good reason, I was driving a car that we "barrowed" from another friends parents. LoL. The next words out of his mouth were " you look like you need a beer, you billy corigan lookin' mother fucker...... hey kid, UP YOURS!!"
Obviously I took the mans advice.
So I decided to go upstairs and I got drunk with Vinnie and Rumple Foreskin. What a fuckin' night.

The one and only time I ever got to see Dime play live was actually an accident...

A few friends and I were going to see Pumpjack...a local band from West Texas that kinda hit it big...somewhat. They were pretty good friends with Pantera and would often get to play with them as an undercard on alot of shows that were around here.

Anyhow, It was inbetween sets, and the next band, Gasoline...who I had never heard of, were gearing up and getting their shit set up. I noticed a fat dude with huge sideburns with like these lines cut out in them...I turned to my buddy and said, ''shit man...I think that's Vinnie fucking Paul!''.

Sure enough...it was. Gasoline had two dudes from Pumpjack, along with VP and Dime. The songs they sang were lame as far as lyrics go...at least I thought so. But the guitarist from Pumpjack was every bit as talented as Dime was and was playing lead for most of the songs they played. Dime was doing alot of the singing. I remember one song , ''go for the gut'', that I laughed alot at...it was just kinda dorky rock and roll...good show though and I had a good time. I t was a trip to see Dime playing for some unknown band...I wish I had known it would be the only time that I'd ever get to see the dude play. It sucks that I never went to a Pantera show...should have gotten off my ass and just went when I had the chance.
