Metal is a pretty worthless genre. Bands are too narrow-minded and constrict themselves to one genre for fear of being labeled something they aren't. Most death metal bands put out albums that sound the same as other albums filled with songs that all sound alike. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, I'm pretty much done with metal these days.

The thing about metal today is that it's heavier and more complex than it's ever been before. It started out a bit redundant in the early 00s, but luckily metal bands are moving in a more diverse direction now, and not just sticking to one genre anymore. So in other words the metal scene is better than ever before. It might take us some time to find more bands as good as Pantera, Burzum, and old Metallica, But they'll be here eventually. I mean, people in the early 80s probably thought Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden would be the best metal bands of all-time, but bands like Pantera took what they did, expanded on it, and made it better. That will happen again.
