I have a few basses to choose from. I play either my red usa Fender Jazz my black usa Fender Jazz or my red 5 string usa Fender Jazz for mellower stuff, my (jap) Fender p bass fretless or my Ibanez acoustic. Lean to play by ear. No wonder music sucks these days, nobody has to work to be able to play anymore so they have no way to translate their creativity into what they want to play. I agree, I generally use tabs as a reference after I learn something, or I will take a look at them if I cannot hear so...
