It'll be a year before you are conditioned enough to sing a 2 hour show. It depends on if you are going to scream. If you are going to scream, then fuck it don't read on. Hey... if you are reading this you actually want to sing. THE FIRST thing to do is to learn to breathe using your diaphragm. You'...

I ususally try to focus on a Fucking deep feeling of Anger, Hatred, Sorrow i feel or have seen someone feel and i try to transform that into music somehow. Kind of like how Jimi Hendrix made up some music by thinking of it as colors, i use emotions or experiences.....I am usually at least drunk whe...

When beginning to write a new song, I'll conceptualize a feel and flow for the song. Sometimes, I'll write it down (no. of bars for each section, key, etc.) so I don't forget it. Then I'll try to write riffs to fill in the pieces. Sometimes when my mood is right, the stuff just flows and I can get i...

If you use lots of gain, a compressor is actually a bad thing. Distortion already compresses the signal anyway. If you're going to use it, put it BEFORE the distortion pedal or gain stage or it sounds like absolute ass. This is accurate. Also, unless you are in the studio I think you should abandon...

Kyle, go to http://homerecording.com/bbs/index.php and sign up for an account. Then post in the music promotion/marketing forum. The people there will be honest and helpful. Some of the members there own dupliaction facilities and mastering shops. This was a serious reply, for music industry groups,...

My first guitar instructor was about 65 years old and put out blues records back in the 50s. He new his instrument inside and out. The lessons were 30 minutes and ran a bit like this; I'd come in and he'd ask me how many hours I practiced this week. Usually I'd tell him like 5 and he said that isn't...

Umm, so you are a cover band? I wouldn't worry about all of that cookie cutter stuff you were talking about. If you play cover songs, there are no less than 100,000 people in Philly/Jersey that could play in your band. Since you do play covers you should be doing whatever you possibly can to get mo...

Real bands have managers. If you want to be big time you will need management. If they are good managers they will tell you how to dress, act and tailor your music to market to the biggest audience and get the most exposure. If you don't want exposure and want to remain small time don't hire a manag...

some people arent made to sing. give up. Not true. Most people don't have a natural ability to sing. Those who become good singers work their asses off to become that way. I would have voted Mastodon, but I had to settle with The Haunted. They were awesome at ATP, and I don't even like them that much on record. Really, damn. I thought the Leviathan album was pretty good but their live show was poop. Saw them twice in the last year. Once with Slayer and once on Ozzfest.

Saw Rush at a community college in upstate NY in 1974, I was 9 yrs old. (pre-Neil Peart) While I'm not a huge Rush fan now, Geddy Lee blew me away then and still always amazes me. I still go see them when they come around, the guy is a genius with a bass. As I got older, Steve Harris, Bob Daisly, F...
