Re: Ok...

Unless you're playing live (maybe even if you are), don't waste your money on outboard gear. I would tell you to get a decent DAW but you must have one already. The software on any big name DAW should be good enough for more or less any home studio purpose, in my humble opinion.

Wood type doesn't matter, unless you're buying a guitar made of balsa wood.

Re: New Guitar For A Hypocrite

I don't recall, it was on ebay and I made a modest profit but it was a Chinese model so fairly cheap. I think I got it for £180 a few years ago. One major design flaw was that the strap peg was on the top of the body above the neck rather than behind it, making it impossible to play standing up :lo...

It looks better.

Edit: some people say that certain wood treatment/painting affects the resonance, but I don't really think that's something that normal people need to take into consideration.

Re: Wood types

I'm sure you won't be disappointed with either one. As long as an electric guitar isn't made of balsa wood you aren't going to have problems, mahogany and basswood are relatively similar anyway. I would just get whichever you can buy in natural finish, or whichever is cheaper

Looks a bit like an Ibanez Jet King. I'm not sure if I like the shape, but it looks like it would play well.

Re: Interested in buying a Fender Strat.

Most new squier guitars are great value once they have some good pickups in. I would never consider buying a USA fender, but they are a lot more expensive here as they're obviously imports.

Re: Anyone here with any luthier experience?

Are you going to start literally from scratch or put together a pre bought neck and body with your choice of hardware? I've never done either but am constantly considering the latter. Being a luthier would be a great job, until you cut a finger off.

Re: Is there a particular theory term for this?

A crescendo is just when an instrument (or vocal) gets louder, which presumably happens in that slipknot song, but I think long4 is talking specifically about maintaining the same vocal throughout whilst the song gets louder and as far as I know there's no name for that.. apart from what Ernie said.
