Re: Bass amp...

If you're using a six-string you'll probably want a pretty wide frequency range--a 2x12 neodymium set-up with a lightweight solid-state pre/power amp combo like one of the Shuttle amps would do the trick. Definitely. I'm toying with the idea of doing some solo bass shows, if I am satisfied with the...

Re: Bass amp...

Markbass makes some nice small bass amps with plenty of power to them (though not cheap). The Genz Benz Shuttle amps are awesome too but, again, not very cheap. But you can carry them on your back, they're so light. At this point I'm still using a rack mount preamp/power amp and neodymium speakers i...

Re: Favorite guitar and bass designs

The stock bridge is pretty beefy and solid. I've swapped out the bridge on my Jazz bass with a Badass though.

You gotta love the "broke toilet seat" design!
It's just quirky enough without having to look like a surgical implement.

Get a Casio. The mid-priced ones are pretty good these days and are touch-sensitive (though not weighted, you'll pay extra for that).

Re: Post your guitar playing

I'm excited because we added "Train In Vain" to the set list last night. 3 chords and 2 riffs...Now pay me bitch! How would you rate your skill? What's the hardest song you can play? Speed wise, I'm not that challenged, but technical ability is so/so. Orion, 46 & 2 and Claypools NIB i...

Re: Post your guitar playing

Gotta agree with jeb here. Anyone who has some free time and will can learn to play other peoples songs, you just have to practice, some will learn faster than others depending on talent. Writing a song, developing an original style and making it all sound good with a group of people where everyone...

Re: Post your guitar playing

It can take quite a bit of skill to play a lot of other people's music whereas it's pretty easy to just write your own music that is always in your comfort zone and skill range.

So unless you're only playing Nirvana covers or writing music like Frank Zappa. . . .

Re: New amp

I've considered a Dual or Triple Rectifier but they're a little more $ than I, a guy who makes music just for a hobby, can justify spending. Although I have seen them used on eBay for around 1K... Same goes for Orange, though I'd love a Rockerverb 100 MKII. I have no experience with Vox at all, Pfl...

I'm really impressed with how good Schecter instruments are for the price. I have a Stiletto and I like the tone better than my Bongo for most things.

Re: Pedals

That's actually a good place to start! Do you play guitar, also? If so, what amp(s) do you use? I *own* a guitar, but I just use it for writing/recording purposes (or, lately, as a wall decoration). It goes through so many pedals though that I just record it direct anyway. If I need to blas...

If I recall, the thumb rests on Middle C and the fingers correspond with the following (or preceding) notes on the white keys.

But I never learned to play the "proper" way, so I could be talking out of my ass.

Re: Electric Drumsets

They should be compatible for the most part. The three-zone pads use a stereo cord (two rings on the end, so one zone is one ring, another zone is the other, and the third uses both at the same time). I'm not sure if the output signals are standard (i.e. you might have to switch the signal that's th...

Re: Ran guitars

Fanned fret instruments are actually pretty damn comfortable to play, imo. If you think of the way your hand and fingers are laid out, it makes a lot of sense ergonomically. The intonation aspect is just a bonus.
